A structured training programme combining in-class theory, online modules, and hands-on, in-field experience — designed to produce competent, confident gardeners and landscapers.
Programme overview
Our training programme is carefully structured to combine comprehensive theoretical learning with practical, real-world application, ensuring that students are both knowledgeable and job-ready.
How it works
Part I
The theory component
The course begins with a robust theory component, developed to cover both foundational knowledge and industry-relevant best practices. This portion includes in-class learning sessions where students are guided through key principles such as plant identification and care, soil health and preparation, irrigation basics, seasonal maintenance planning, and the safe and effective use of tools and equipment.
In addition to classroom sessions, students have access to structured online video chapters. These modules reinforce and expand on what is taught in class, allowing learners to revisit topics at their own pace and deepen their understanding. The theory component also places strong emphasis on best-practice methodologies — workplace safety, client interaction and professionalism, time management, site organisation, and maintaining high standards of workmanship. Environmental awareness and sustainable gardening practices are integrated throughout the curriculum.
Throughout the theory phase, students are encouraged to engage, ask questions, and build confidence in both their technical knowledge and decision-making. The theoretical training culminates in a formal course-end examination, which assesses each student's understanding and readiness to progress into the practical environment.
Part II
The practical component
The practical component of the training is conducted in-company, where students gain hands-on experience in real-time, on-site environments. During this phase, trainees work alongside experienced company teams, engaging directly with clients, equipment, and plant materials. This immersive experience reinforces the theory and best practices learned, while exposing students to the realities of daily operations in the field.
Students actively participate in tasks such as site preparation, planting, pruning, maintenance, and general garden care — observing and applying professional standards throughout. The practical training is designed not only to build technical skills but also to develop reliability, teamwork, problem-solving, and client-facing confidence. All practical work is closely supervised and invigilated by company team managers, ensuring consistent guidance, quality control, and adherence to industry standards.
Part III
Certification & placement
Upon successful completion of both the theoretical and practical components, students receive an official company certificate and verification of their training. All graduates also undergo a SAPS criminal background check, ensuring credibility and trustworthiness for future clients.
To further support employment opportunities, successful candidates are added to our gardener database and featured on our website, allowing potential clients to connect directly with trained and verified individuals.
Overall, the course is designed not only to educate, but to produce competent, confident, and professional individuals who are fully prepared to enter and succeed in the gardening and landscaping market.
